Glasgow-based SgurrEnergy has opened an office in Johannesburg as it presses on with its three-year strategy for international expansion.
The base will “help meet the growing demand for renewable energy consultancy services in South Africa and provide in-depth knowledge of the local market, backed up by the expertise of SgurrEnergy’s global office network”, the company said.
The consultancy, which is part of Wood Group, unveiled an action plan in 2012 that has so far seen staff numbers in its Glasgow HQ double from 90 to 180 and new offices set up in Brazil, Norway and Germany.
SgurrEnergy business development manager for South Africa Solly Malema said: “The launch of this office in Johannesburg will allow SgurrEnergy to take advantage of South Africa as a renewable energy business hub, given its abundant wind and solar resources.
“We are excited about the growth prospects that this development brings in one of Africa’s largest economies and we look forward to offering our capabilities to South Africa’s renewable energy industry.”
SgurrEnergy has been active in the country since 2012 and most recent work includes technical advisor roles for solar projects.
The company now has 11 international offices spanning North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.
